COREDEVT is one of the oldest Haitian organizations in the United States. It is also the longest existing organization in the region of Trouin. Its primary purposes are to promote social, educational and economic advancement of the population of Trouin., the modernization of the town and its surrounding areas.
COREDEVT was founded in 1979 in New York by a group of patriots who were zealous and devoted. They were conscious of the alarming situation in Trouin. That association was formed to answer the alarming calls of the population which was very concerned about the critical situation in Trouin and its devasting effect on the social and economic conditions of the region at that time.
It was COREDEVT, then known as “Comite de Relevement de Trouin”, which instilled a glimmer of hope in the mind of the people by implementing an efficient program of work aimed at the development of Trouin. During the 32 years of its existence, despite difficult circumstances, COREDEVT has carried through a great deal of projects. These are: 1) running water, 2) electricity, 3) le lycee de Trouin (the high school), 3) road improvements, 4) sponsor-Ship of students, etc.
Current activities include the building of a park (Place de Saint Christophe),improvement of the town entrance, and continuation of the sponsorship program for students whose parents cannot afford to send their children to school. The construction of a medical clinic, the installation of the solar lighting system are future prospects, but contingent on an efficient allocation of funds.
COREDEVT is a not for profit (501) © (3) organization registered in the state of New York (USA) and in Haiti. It is well established in Trouin and well-known throughout the Western and the Southeast provinces of Haiti. Its members work closely with the New York branch to coordinate and execute all its projects.
Trouin lies half-way between Leogane and Jacmel. Due to its proximity to Jacmel, and its social, religious, and commercial ties with that city, and others factors, COREDEVT has claimed its membership to the Federation des Associations du Sud-Est (FEDADSE) since 2005. COREDEVT will continue to work for the community of Trouin and at the same time contribute to the success of FEDADSE. We invite you to participate in all our activities, as a way to show unity, devotion for your country and home town, and your appreciation for our hard work.
